Social Media Scam Warning: Fake Accounts and Support Impersonators

Category: Scams · Updated recently

Scammers are impersonating friends, brands, and “support teams” on social platforms to steal accounts, money, or personal information. These scams often start with a believable message and a profile that looks real at first glance.

A common pattern is: a fake account messages you → you’re asked to “verify” something → you’re sent a link to a look-alike login page → your password or verification code gets captured → your account is taken over.

What to do right now

Pro tip: Real platform support will not ask for your password or one-time codes by DM. If someone asks for codes, assume it’s a scam.
